Samsung Galaxy S24: Is It Really Worth Buying?

After a lot of hype, the Samsung Galaxy S24 has finally arrived. It's time to choose if you should buy Samsung's newest top smartphone or not. Though it does not have all of the significant hardware improvements of the latest models, the base model S24 has enough internal features to make it a compelling option for smartphone buyers.

Preorders for the Galaxy S24 are already starting out, with Samsung's entry-level flagship starting at $799. When the phone goes on sale on January 31, you will have some time to decide whether or not to buy it. Unless, of course, you want to take advantage of preorder promotions like Samsung's, which allow you to trade in your phone for a cash refund of up to $550 and upgrade your storage for free.

It's All About AI

There is also good news if you have concluded that Samsung's more pricey models are out of your price range. Samsung makes the same AI functions available on all S24 models, so the Galaxy S24 may provide the same capabilities as the Galaxy S24 Plus or Galaxy S24 Ultra.

The kinds of daily tasks you probably use your phone for have shown such capabilities to be some fairly helpful features. For instance, Circle to Search simplifies online searches by having you just circle an object within the app you are now using.

This Time 6.2-inch Big Display

With the Galaxy S24, you'll have more screen area than ever before. Samsung reduced the bezels on its latest phones, so the Galaxy S24 now has a 6.2-inch display, up from the 6.1-inch screen on last year's Galaxy S23. With its dimensions of 5.79 x 2.78 x 0.3 inches, the Galaxy S24 isn't much bigger than its predecessor because the additional screen real estate is caused by decreasing bezels rather than mass.

Not only is the Galaxy S24's display larger, but it is also brighter. Samsung really gives the same maximum brightness of 2,600 nits on the Galaxy S24 and Galaxy S24 Ultra since they use the same brightness rating for all of the Galaxy S24 models. Meaning  your phone's display will remain viewable regardless of the lighting conditions surrounding it.

Software Upgrades = 7 Years

Since the debut of the Pixel 8 last autumn, Google has outlasted its four-year commitment by offering seven years of support. How did Samsung respond? Join them if you can't beat them; the Galaxy S24 comes with seven years of security and software support. That means Galaxy S24 will be allowed to keep it for as long as you like – or until 2031, whichever comes first.

The Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SOC

Since the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 system-on-a-chip's release last autumn, every leaked benchmark has increased our curiosity about the potential capabilities of the Galaxy S24 versions with Qualcomm's most recent hardware.

Big On Battery

There is a 4,000 mAh battery on the Galaxy S24. That's a little increase over the 3,900 mAh battery utilized in the Galaxy S23. With the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 — Qualcomm's new chipset is intended to be more power efficient than its predecessor — you'd expect the Galaxy S24 to last longer on a charge than last year's model.

The Same Price As Previously

You need just look at the Galaxy S24 Ultra, which is currently $100 more expensive than its predecessor, to see that prices are rising. In recent months, the iPhone 15 Pro Max and both Pixel 8 devices have also seen price increases.

Fortunately, the Galaxy S24 has avoided that fate; like the Galaxy S23 before it, it starts at $799. Because it is one of the few phones in this price range with a dedicated telephoto lens, the Galaxy S24 is an extremely attractive deal. Not to mention the addition of additional features like an enhanced display with built-in artificial intelligence and more.

Living Outside of U.S ?

Not all Galaxy S24 models are powered by the Snapdragon 8 Generation 3. Exynos 2400 processors power the Galaxy S24 and Galaxy S24 Plus variants that ship outside of North America.

We wouldn't blame consumers in other areas of the world for opting for the Galaxy S23 and its top-performing processor simply because it's a known entity at this time, because the Galaxy S23 didn't split up its chipsets depending on location — every variant of the S23 had a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2.

Final Thoughts..

The less expensive Galaxy S23 is still a solid choice if $799 is too much for you to spend. You will lose quick access to the new AI-powered capabilities, as well as the other S24-specific enhancements.

However, there is a reason why the Galaxy S24 was one of the greatest phones of the last year. Delaying the purchase of a smartphone for a short while may be justified by the impending release of the OnePlus 12, which signals the arrival of other top Android phones.
