Apple iPhone 14 Pro Max review : Is It Worth Buying?

For the last several years, purchasing Apple's top-tier iPhone required purchasing the Pro counterpart. You need a Pro iPhone if you want the best cameras, displays, and battery life. The greatest iPhones for 2022 are the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max, which isn't any different from last year.

Cons

  • Among the heaviest smartphones available

  • A little heavier and thicker

I know you'll love Apple's brand-new 48MP camera, always-on screen, and Dynamic Island upgrades to the most recent Pro iPhones.

The iPhone 14 Pro Max builds on the strengths of the 14 Pro while also going above and beyond by introducing a more immersive display and a significantly longer battery life.

The iPhone 14 Pro Max is the pinnacle of a flagship smartphone if you can afford the greater price and more weight, albeit those features do come at a cost. In all the greatest ways, it is huge, expensive, powerful, and completely excessive.

But is it really worth buying at all ? Let's talk about it.

Design: A Bit Heavier

The design of the iPhone 14 Pro Max is very identical to that of the iPhone 13 Pro Max from the previous year, or more specifically, the iPhone 12 Pro Max. Apple has continued to use the same basic design aesthetic for the past few years, and although this may not make the iPhone 14 Pro Max visually groundbreaking, there isn't much to be critical of in this tried-and-true style.

The frosted glass back looks and feels amazing, the stainless steel frame is opulent, and the buttons and haptic feedback are as wonderful as you'd expect. The fit and quality on the majority of modern smartphones is good, but the iPhone 14 Pro Max still feels superior. The iPhone 14 Pro Max is available in deep purple, silver, gold, and space black.

The Pro Max's size is the one distinguishing feature that makes it different from the iPhone 14 in terms of appearance. One of the heaviest smartphones available in the market is iPhone 14 Pro Max, which measures 160.7mm height and weighs 240 grams. Making the switch to the iPhone 14 Pro Max looked very daunting at first for someone who often favors smaller phones and has been using an iPhone 13 Pro for the previous year. With the same IP68 water resistance, the overall design is attractive but perhaps a little too recognizable.

What is lacking? The SIM card tray is that. Apple has eliminated this function and has eSIM technology in its place, much like it did with the headphone jack before this. The bad news is that not all international carriers have adopted eSIM, so you'll need to find out before your trip whether your provider is compatible.

Screen: Is The Dynamic Island That Much Good?

The Dynamic Island has also been a pleasure to see. Apple's notch is gone, and its place is now filled with a solid black bar over the top of the display. The Dynamic Island, despite its silly name, is one of the most intriguing iPhone features I've seen in a long time, and it makes me want to see what Apple will do with it.

Many additional applications benefit from Dynamic Island. There, you may view a number of different things, like the status of your timer, the next step in Maps, the status of incoming and outgoing calls, and more. Even two simultaneous live events can be shown in the Island. And after you set a timer and then it shows a live countdown so you can easily keep track of it. The Dynamic Island also displays Face ID prompts, device charging notifications, AirPods connection pop-ups, incoming calls and call controls and more.

In exchange for putting up with the iPhone 14 Pro Max's enormous size, you receive two key advantages. The first is a huge 6.7-inch display. With a resolution of 2796 x 1290, the OLED panel has the same 460ppi pixel density as the smaller iPhone 14 Pro.

The screen of the 14 Pro Max is of the same high caliber as that on the iPhone 14 Pro. The screen is now brighter than ever, the colors are vibrant and lovely, and the text is simple to read.

Expect a maximum brightness of 1000 nits in most situations, but the iPhone 14 Pro Max can reach a maximum brightness of 2000 nits when additional light is required, such as in intense sunshine. You shouldn't ever have an issue seeing the phone outside, not even on the sunniest of days.

Expect a maximum brightness of 1000 nits in most situations, but the iPhone 14 Pro Max can reach a maximum brightness of 2000 nits when additional light is required.

The iPhone 14 Pro Max is one of the first iPhones with an always-on screen. It retains the 120Hz ProMotion refresh rate Apple introduced on the iPhone 13 Pro lineup, giving you ultra-smooth animations. Pressing the power button to turn off your iPhone's display now shows a dimmed version of your lock screen.

The iPhone 14 Pro's 6.7-inch display has been a treat to use every day. From gaming, scrolling through Twitter, to browsing sites on Safari, it all feels bigger and roomier on the iPhone Pro Max. Having a 6.1-inch screen certainly isn't tiny, but having a larger canvas is a treat.

Cameras: A 48MP Camera?

Since a few years ago, Apple's cameras have been top-notch, and the iPhone 14 Pro Max makes things much better. Since the iPhone 6s, Apple has only used 12MP camera sensors, but the new 48MP primary camera on the iPhone 14 Pro Max features an f/1.78 aperture and sensor-shift optical image stabilization. The sensor's increased resolution enables the 48MP primary camera to double as a 2x optical zoom lens.

A 12MP telephoto camera with a 3x zoom and a 12MP ultrawide camera with a 120-degree field-of-view are added to the primary camera. The 12MP front-facing camera, the first with autofocus on an iPhone, is another innovation. And that is all you receive in terms of hardware. Software-wise, the iPhone 14 Pro Max makes use of Apple's new Photonic Engine picture pipeline, which, according to Apple's website, "offers more vivid colors and wonderfully textured textures in less light than before."

The 48MP primary camera dependably delivers outstanding pictures whether you're shooting in favorable or unfavorable lighting situations. Rich and brilliant colors are used, but they also do a wonderful job of staying true to how a scene truly appeared. The degree of detail you can capture with the primary camera also astounded. Despite the 48MP photographs from the sensor being pixel-binned to 12MP photos, the photos still have very fine details. The realistic depth of field you receive in your photographs is another fantastic benefit of the bigger 48MP camera.

This night mode, down below, is clearly won by the iPhone 14 Pro Max. On the iPhone, the fire pit's stone wall, green couches, and surrounding lights are all considerably crisper and more vibrant.

The camera app instantly shifts to a macro mode made possible by the ultrawide camera when you get the iPhone 14 Pro Max near enough to something. The outcomes are extraordinary. There is so much variety with the macro mode, whether you want to take a close-up picture of a flower or want to reveal hidden features in a piece of cloth.

Smartphones with poor macro cameras are abundant, but those with good ones are much harder to find. The macro camera on the iPhone 14 Pro Max is one of the finest on the market right now.

On paper, 3x zoom doesn't seem as remarkable as the 30x and 100x zoom you can get on a Galaxy S22 Ultra with the 12MP telephoto camera. But in actual use, it has shown out to be a really useful sensor. The telephoto camera's 3x images let you get considerably closer to your subject while still preserving excellent clarity and vibrant colors. Additionally, I believe that 3x finds a good balance between bringing the topic near to you without making it appear cluttered. Additionally, the 48MP primary camera's 2x zoom option has been fantastic for getting up close to your subject while still allowing you to see part of the backdrop.

Last but not least is the upgraded selfie camera on the iPhone 14 Pro Max. The 12MP selfie camera performs admirably, capturing vivid colors and appealing details as expected. But what truly makes it shine is the autofocus. All previous iPhones' selfie cameras had fixed focus, which meant that they had a predetermined focus point that couldn't be changed. However, you may change the focus on the iPhone 14 Pro Max to be much closer or farther away than previously. It may seem like a little element, but it has greatly increased the camera's versatility.

Out Of The Box: iOS 16

iOS 16 is the default operating system on the iPhone 14 Pro Max. Although there have been a few noticeable changes, Apple's most recent version of iOS is mostly similar to iOS 15. The lock screen is the greatest change in this year's release.

Apple now provides you complete power to alter your lock screen in a variety of ways with iOS 16. You can build different lock screens that you can quickly switch between, modify the clock font, and add widgets. Although the customization interface may be made better, the extra functionality offered by this feature is excellent, and everything looks stunning when shown on the iPhone 14 Pro Max's always-on screen.

The lock screen isn't iOS 16's only significant improvement. The Weather app now gives you considerably more information than before when you tap on the weather prediction and other statistics. Additionally, there is a fantastic photo cutout tool, a battery % indicator for the status bar, typing feedback from the keyboard, iMessage edit/unsend choices, and a ton more.

Additionally, the iPhone 14 Pro Max will continue to get new iOS updates for years to come in classic Apple manner. We anticipate that the iPhone 14 Pro Max will continue to get regular OS and security upgrades for five or six years after its sale, even if Apple doesn't promise a particular number.

Performance: A16 (5nm) Is The New CPU

With the iPhone, performance is rarely a source of complaint. That's still true with the iPhone 14 Pro Max, which comes as no surprise. since it has Apple's newest A16 Bionic chip. The A16 is quicker and more energy-efficient than the A15 since its 5nm design is smaller than the 5nm architecture of the A15.

For whatever job You give the A16 Bionic, it has shown to be a performance powerhouse. Apps? They operate well and open right away. Games? Any game I've thrown at the iPhone 14 Pro Max has worked flawlessly, from Tetris to Call of Duty: Mobile. And when you add 6GB of RAM to that, multitasking becomes a seamless and dependable experience.

Battery Life: It's 4323mAh, Folks

The longer battery life of the iPhone 14 Pro Max was partly due to its more effective processor. There are phones that charge quicker than the iPhone 14 Pro Max, which is a shame because it only supports 20W charging. When charging a depleted iPhone 14 Pro Max, basically it only reached 42% in 30 minutes, despite Apple's assertion that you may reach 50%.

Turning off the always-on screen, however, increases battery life if you notice that it is depleting more quickly.

So, Is The iPhone 14 Max Pro Worth Buying?

There’s no question that 2022 is an exciting year for Apple’s Pro lineup of iPhones. With the new always-on screen, Dynamic Island, considerable camera upgrades, and A16 Bionic chipset, there’s a lot to sink into with the iPhone 14 Pro Max.

Without a doubt, 2022 will be a thrilling year for Apple's Pro series of iPhones. The iPhone 14 Pro Max offers a lot to ponder with its new always-on screen, Dynamic Island, significant camera enhancements, and A16 Bionic CPU.

The 14 Pro Max improves on the iPhone 14 Pro by having a bigger screen and a substantially longer battery life. It still has all the same outstanding features. The iPhone 14 Pro Max stands out as the greatest iPhone this year if you can get past the fact that it is a huge phone and that it is expensive. Furthermore, undoubtedly among the greatest smartphones money can purchase.
